102 Not Out Funny Scene on Bamboo
Live forever
This is a comedy based on a Gujrati play. A 102 year old guy and his 75 year old son live in their ancestral home in Ville Parle in Mumbai. The father is a happy go lucky type of person whereas his son is a rigid, stuck up kind of a person who has a fixed daily routine, going to the doctor daily, etc. One day the father tells him that he is shifting the son to a old age home because he wants to beat the record of the longest living person and needs to be surrounded by happy people, which his son is not. If he does not want to go to the old age home, he has to perform certain tasks. In this way he wants to teach his son to enjoy life, be independent and live a long life, like him.
The director gets everything right from the get go. From the liver spots on the father's face to the finale where the son breaks away from his son's hold. The script is fantastic, the pacing of the movie is good and they don't go over the top ever. The performances by all three characters are excellent.
The Indian concept of family first is challenged here. You as a individual need to enjoy your own life without depending on anyone for that enjoyment. This applies not only to the older folks but to everyone.

Fun. Entertainer. Emotional. Life Lessons. Two Legends in one frame. Superb Concept. Superb Runtime (102 min)!
102NotOut : An unusual story of father and son- is adopted from the successful Gujarati play by the same name, written and directed by Saumya Joshi. Amitabh Bachchan as 102 years old man and Rishi Kapoor as 75 years old man are in the lead, & the film is directed by Umesh Shukla.
Dattatraya Vakhariya wants to break the record of a Chinese man who lived 118 years. He gives two options to his son Babulal Vakhariya to either leave his home and live in an old age home or to change himself into a happy and delightful person by agreeing to his terms! And the film takes its pace after one by another challenges which are given to Babulal.
It is a blessing to watch both the legends on the same screen! They are back after 27 years! Amitabh Bachchan plays his role brilliantly. And I know, you are bored of reading this line in every film of his! Rishi Kapoor gives one of the best performances of his career. The pair of these two is fabulous. One more actor is there to entertain you- Jimit Trivedi. Every Gujarati movie lover knows him well because of Gujjubhai Movies. He plays a character of Dhiru with great conviction. His wit is quite enough for audiences to laugh out loud. Especially, the scene of him describing Bamboo trees!
Post interval, many scenes are full of emotion. I have seen the play three times. Each time I've enjoyed it a lot. Despite the fact that I knew what's going to happen next, I cried a lot in post interval! And that is unbelievable...! This can only happen if actors are creating some magic. Even I can also say that the script is also well developed, that every time you can feel the emotion. Now, it is clear on my mind that I love cinema more than theatre, so for me Today is the realization day! Thanks to 102 not out. And special thanks to the background music team, for providing suitable environment.
Just two songs are there- Kulfi & Bachche Ki Jaan, which are suitable to the flow. The usage of old Hindi movie songs are fantastic. Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana and Waqt Ne Kiya Haseen Sitam are still fresh. Like it is shown in film, just try these songs on speaker in night to feel the magic. I can give you my guarantee that if you do it once, you'll do it more often.
Umesh K Shukla has done a good job. Pulling of a script based on a play and that too on such a high level is not an easy task. Editing is crisp. Usage of cartoons are commendable. Set design is as per the script. Costumes are well and good. The Happy Street scene at the end is fantastic. I feel that there are some scenes where characters are happy and celebrating, but as an audience, we get tears in eyes. This scene is one of them! I can not explain in words that how was I feeling at the time when Bachchan and Kapoor were dancing in the rain. Uff...
'Aulaad Agar Nalayak Nikale, To Usey Bhool Jana Chahiye... Sirf Unka Bachpan Yaad Rakhna Chahiye!' - There are many well written dialogues in the film by Saumya Joshi. The love letter scene is too good! As well as the church scene. I must say here that Rishi Kapoor has delivered a very strong performance.
Word of mouth will become this Amitabh-Rishi starrer film's main weapon to destroy Thanos and it'll run successfully at Box Office. Gujaratis do watchout this film for its Gujarati elements. You will never regret of giving your 102 minutes to this wonderful movie- 102 not out. So, go for it guys, learn to live life thoroughly... Yo!

This movie is 102 mins tonic for them who are feeling bore or frustrated with their life
Direction:
Umesh Shukla got fame with the success of Oh My God but he failed to carry the momentum in his next outing All is well. This time, he back with another comedy drama based on Gujarati play. If you have two legends and great script , you have to just go with the flow as a director. Great inclusion of Comedy and serious moments with wonderful message about life.
Script:
Saumya Joshi's witty writing add more fun and entertainment in fathers-son story without any female character. Dialogue was so funny and witty that you will laugh through out the movie. One dialogue between legends e.g. "Bachche jab kharab nikal jaye to uska keval bachpan hi yaad rakhna chahiye".
Performance:
Rishi Kapoor has done brilliant job in the role of Babu however Big B has proved again why he called as Godfather of Bollywood. Jimit Trivedi was also good in supporting role of Dhiru. There was no female character however you will never realize this through out the movie.
Music:
Salim-Sulaiman's music was good as it has some good songs. Arijit Singh sing "Bachche ki jaan" and Sonu Nigam sing "Kulfi" perfectly. Amitabh Bachchan has compose Badumbaaa song which sing by Bachchan sahab and Rishi Kapoor.
Box-office:
This movie is made of moderate budget of 6.5 crores and Opening day collection is around 3.5 crores. It means it will be profitable affair after weekend itself. Life time collection will be around 30 crores.
Last Word:
Some movie stay with the audience after the long time.Surely this movie is one of them.

One of the best movies ever made
I am not a fan of bollywood movies for obvious reasons (there is not much good cinema left here). But every once in a while, a soul-searching movie like this comes out which just shakes me to the core of my heart. The great script coupled with the 2 greatest actors of all time, is just simply too good. Everyone should watch this movie.

Brings a smile and a tear
A lovely movie, great acting by all 3 characters. The movie maintains a feel good tone throughout. A great mixture of comedy, drama.
A great quote by Amitabh, "I never died not even once". The movie re-emphasizes this quote and oh so beautifully.
Definitely recommended a must watch

Couldn't have casted better
Perfect casting.. I cannot imagine any other two actors playing the two roles.. Amitabh as witty father and Rishi Kapoor as serious son.. Great combination.. Needless to say performances of both actors are amazing, faultless.. We talk about Amitabh Bachan getting better with age.. But recent roles of Rishi Kapoor also indicate the same thing.. Movie is really enjoyable.. Not a dull moment throughout.. A rare but important message

A LIFE LESSON TO ALL GENERATIONS
102 NOT OUT REVIEW :
I had seen the original drama on which this film is based so obviously i knew everything about script and i didn't need to watch the film but as a movie buff i prepared myself to see how cinematic version turns out. Despite being predictable/seen story to me, this film ended up as a 'Classic' for me then just imagine how much someone will like it who hasn't seen the drama. 102 Not Out is not only a Brilliant Film but also a Life Lesson to everyone.
Story is very interesting and unique, every cinema lover is always ready to see something new and this film is gives you that something new and very interesting theme. Amitabh Bachchan has nailed his role and i believe he deserves some respectable awards for this mind-blowing performance. Rishi Kapoor has done excellent job, he completely suits for that 75 years old guy's role. His voice, expression, body language is just wow. Other cast is okay. Screenplay is tight and engaged, throughout. Runtime of 107 minutes is so perfect and may be that's why film doesn't look boring for a single moment. Cinematography is Average, as i feel scenes in the house, mumbai roaming scenes, nature could have been captured in better way. Music is Decent, this script does not have a place for songs but come on it's a Film, not a drama so anyhow director gonna put some songs for sure, and it was unnecessary. Dialogues are Good, few are so meaningful so does memorable. Direction is Very Good, film has some lose scenes in the first half but thank god Umesh Shukla has covered the loss in second half and especially in the climax otherwise a Classic script would have gone in vain.
Overall, 102 Not Out is Close to Classic Tag, i'm 90% calling it a Classic but 10% unsure because of some mistakes in the first half. Still, somewhere climax has hit the right chords so yes This One is A Classic. A Must Watch for all generation audience. I would have loved to go with 7.5/10* but it's not available on IMDb so yes 8/10* for this one and thumbs up for the team.

Amitabh superb inning of 102 with the strike rate of 100 - Well done Amitabh & Rishi
First of all, Amitabh Bachchan & Rishi Kapoor congratulations to both of you and secondly, you both have done a great contribution and justice on your roles and it's really fun watching you both in this fantastic movie. Your actings were superb. I liked the concept and the script. The idea behind the movie was very well explained and presented brilliantly. In the movie, Amitabh Bachchan completed his century and got out for 102 but Rishi Kapoor has only got 25 short to his maiden century in this movie (102 Not Out Part 1) but hope he can still make his century in their upcoming102 Not Out in part 2 and then could have a chance to fulfill his caring dad (Amitabh Bachchan) wish by breaking the world record holder of 118 years old Omchang Tong from China. What you think Rishi Jee, are you gonna make this happen and do this for your beloved dad - Amitabh?

Come here if want to have fun!
Warning: Spoilers
First prize goes the Casting Director - Jogi Mallang. Second prize the Editor - Bodhaditya Banerjee. Third prize for Director - Umesh Shukla.
And then behold! Here come our two legends - Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor. What a pleasure it is to see them sharing screen space in such impactful drama served with thick sauce of comedy.
Of course, Mr Bachchan nails it every time. After seeing him you always say, this role is just for him. But in my opinion in many cases, Mr Kapoor has outshined him.
Bachchan's witty dialog delivery, Kapoor's silent expressions. Bachchan's explicit mental strength, Kapoor's heart-touching reticent tenacity. Amazing 92 minutes of celluloid gem.
The film is made with two and a half characters only, apart from the Two, Jimit Trivedi as Dhiru is the half. He does a decent job, it is not easy to share the screen with those monuments. The father (Bachchan) is about to die, and before that he wants to make sure his son (Kapoor) lives his life to the fullest - leaving aside the usual old-age worries and missing his only son. The method he adapts might be melodramatic, but it works.
You feel happy from inside when the son is "alive" again. You don't feel sad when the last whistle is heard.
Come, have fun!

When It Comes to Raising Children, Everything is Cricket
Amitabh Bachchan comes home one day with a resolution to be the oldest man in the history of the world: Since he is 102, he has sixteen years to go. However, he sees no chance of accomplishing this with his glum, cautious 75-year-old son, played by Rishi Kapoor bringing him down, so he's going to put him in an old age home.... unless the son agrees to a series of challenges. What starts out as a silly farce gradually ripens into a wider discourse on relationships.
It's based on a play and ultimately is about how good parents never stop raising their children. I found the acting a bit too broad by Mr. Bachchan, but that was a natural choice to offset the low-affect depression of Mr. Kapoor. In the end it was a charming movie and well worth my time.

A light-hearted film that should be watched
Summary: 102 Not out is a film based on a Gujrati pay by the same name. A father named Dattatraya Vakhariya, played by Amitabh Bachchan is a 102 year old man with a mind still young and body full of spirit. His son Babulal Vakhariya played by Rishi Kapoor is of 75 years and for some reason has lost interest in his life; or in his own words: "Has accepted his old age" and is annoyed for most of the time. On one of the Valentine's day, Dattatraya makes an unusual announcement of sending Babulal to old age home so that he can break the world record for living longest. He thinks that the sad and boring life of Babulal is a hinderance for this record. Babulal opposes and in order to stay in the house, Dattatraya offers some challenges to Babulal which will make him a jolly and delightful person.
This is a 102 minute film and all of the above things happen within the first 15 minutes. What follows is the struggles of Rishi Kapoor to complete each and every challenge and how with each challenge he finds happiness and tries to bring back his original self.
The movie though portrayed as light hearted from the trailer has many strong and intense emotional scenes which are played to perfection by all the actors. A special applaud to Jimit Trivedi who plays a strong supporting character in taking care of both the old people. Beneath all the fun and emotions there is a strong underlying message that this film succeeds in delivering to the audience. For me, in this film acting of Rishi Kapoor was slightly better than Amitabh Bachchan and he plays all the diverse emotions to near perfection.
The film is not a classic and in my opinion it does not aim to be so. The songs though are not particularly exceptional but they do give a boost to the movie. There are scenes where some of the old classic songs such as "Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam" are played and these scenes in particular are a joy to watch. The film, however, I think rushes to the climax hastily and does not deliver the same level of emotions that other scenes in the movie deliver.
The dialogues of the movie are good; not exceptional but good. They are funny because the acting is very good. Bollywood has made this type of movie after a long time. Should watch it.

102 NOT OUT is an unusual story of a father and a son. Dattatraya Vakharia (Amitabh Bachchan) is a healthy old man at the ripe age of 102. He's full of life and aims to live for 16 more years to break the record of the oldest man alive on Earth. His son Babulal (Rishi Kapoor) meanwhile is around 75 and has lost interest in life. Dattatraya is unable to tolerate the negativity oozed by Babulal with regards to old age, death etc. and decides to become the first father ever to admit his son in an old-age home. Babulal is naturally shocked and livid at this decision of his father and he protests. Dattatraya, as a result, decides to put few conditions in front of Babulal that he needs to fulfill if he wants to stay in their sprawling bungalow. As Dattatraya starts to fulfill these conditions, he becomes more and more excited and child-like. But few of the conditions also require Babulal to confront some of the past demons, which is going to be a challenge. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
The opening credits of the film are creative, showcasing some of the important landmarks of Mumbai, many of which are also a part of the film's narrative. The introduction of all the 3 important characters - Dattatraya, Babulal and Dhiru (Jimit Trivedi) is quite funny and makes for a nice watch. The film is just 102 minutes long and hence, no time is wasted. The film comes right on track after the quick introduction and it's hilarious to see Dattatraya trying to get his son admitted into an old age home. The sequence where he reads Babulal's love letter raises lots of laughs. From here, the film slips a bit as the direction is a bit disjointed. But the film picks up slightly with the church sequence as a new angle is introduced at this point. Post-interval, this angle gets a lot of prominence and that's where the film gets emotional. The sequence where Dattatraya narrates a terrible ordeal from their lives is heart-wrenching but also one of the best sequences of the film. The climax is clap worthy and also puts a smile on one's face. But in this process, the humour that one would expect after watching the funny promos of the film, might feel a bit let down as the second half is very serious, with very few laughs.
Saumya Joshi's story is novel, touching and gives a very important message. Saumya Joshi's screenplay is effective, for most of the parts, but is too quick and slightly incoherent in the first half. For instance, the manner in which the film's tone gets too emotional in the sequence when Babulal enters the park with the aeroplane is too quick and catches viewers unaware. Saumya Joshi's dialogues however keep the fun and interest going and at places, are also quite acidic. Umesh Shukla's direction is simple and neat. He struggles at a few places in the first half, but overall, he manages to leave a mark and ensure that viewers are moved and have laughed in equal measures. 102 NOT OUT is adapted from a Gujarati play by the same name, directed by Saumya Joshi, and Umesh manages to get it on celluloid very well. At a few places, it does give you a feeling of a play but no complaints as such since the content is strong!
Amitabh Bachchan is in a great form yet again and delivers an outstanding performance. It's amusing and endearing to see him playing a centenarian and still preferring to live life to the fullest. Even in the emotional scenes, he shines a lot. His Gujarati accent comes out well, but it's not too in-your-face. Rishi Kapoor also puts his best foot forward and gets completely into the skin of his character. It's nice to see him as an uptight senior citizen and his gradual transformation is also lovely. His best act is definitely in a crucial emotional sequence in the second half where he mouths no dialogues but communicates a lot simply through his expressions and eyes. Jimit Trivedi whose debut in BHOOL BULAIYAA (2007) was much talked about gives a yet another bravura performance. He also contributes a lot to the fun and emotional quotient of the film. Dharmendra Gohil (Amol) is decent in the lone sequence.
Salim-Sulaiman's music is hardly memorable. 'Bachche Ki Jaan' and 'Kulfi' both are played in the background and go well with the narrative. 'Badumbaa' is missing from the film. George Joseph's background score however is quite exhilarating. Laxman Utkar's cinematography is decent and the exterior shots of Mumbai are well captured. Bodhaditya Banerjee's editing is slick, at times too quick, but overall fair. It's commendable that a film with the title of 102 NOT OUT is actually 102 minutes long and kudos to the editor for managing it. Mansi Dhruv Mehta's production design is appealing - the mansion looks quite rich. Veera Kapur Ee's costume stylist is first-rate. The review would be incomplete without the mention of Preetisheel Singh's make up, hair and prosthetics. She gives a great look to both the veteran actors which also turns out to be the film's USP.
On the whole, 102 NOT OUT is a complete family entertainer with strong emotions as its trump card. It carries an important message for today's times. At the box office, it will have a strong word of mouth and families are bound to flock to watch it in theatres.

102 Not Out Review
102 Not Out is a film directed by Umesh Shukla. The trailers of the film impressed me and I was looking forward to watch this film. Finally, I watched this film and was totally impressed.
Plot: Dattatraya Vakharia decides to send his son Babulal to an old age home if he doesn't fulfill some of his conditions.
Story and direction: The film's strong point is its writing. Saumya Joshi (who adapted it from his own Gujurati play) has proved to be a very nice writer as his voice is heard in almost every scene. The film knows how to balance its light-hearted and dramatic moments. I laughed hard durimg the funny moments and became emotional during the dramatic ones. And that comes when the writer and director are on the same page (that was the very case in this film). In each and every condition that Dattatraya keeps, an important life lesson is learnt that is applicable in real life too. There was never a dull moment in its 102 minute runtime. The characters are so awesome and real, that you feel the emotions they are going through in a particular scene. A department that deserves full credit is the make-up department. The actors did look convincing as 102 and 75 year olds. However, the film does have its flaws. There are many scenes which felt like product placement. It felt very annoying. Also, the climax of the film felt clichéd and guessed from a mile away.
Performances: This film is filled with award winning performances. Starting with the evergreen, Amitabh Bachchan. This man just goes on to defy every norm and rule of acting and delivers a great performance in each film. He also nailed the Gujurati accent. Rishi Kapoor in the couple of years has redefined himself in his career and this film will go down as one of his gems in his illustrious career. Complementing these 2 stars is a mammoth task which Jimit Trivedi did fantastically. He was awesome and one of the shining elements of this film.
Music: The film has 3 music directors composing for 6 songs. But each of the songs sits comfortably in the scenes. My favourite was 'Kulfi'by Sonu Nigam. That song was just awesome.
Favorite Scene: I won't say much but this is the one where all the 3 central characters are involved and the song 'Waqt ne Kiya' plays. After that, there is dialogue that made me emotional and struck my heart with a lighning bolt.
Verdict: Do watch this film not for some amazing performances, but a heartfelt story.
I am going with an 8/5/10.

Good Acting
Warning: Spoilers
Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor did an amazing acting. The writing of this movie was incredible. Amitabh Bachchan plays the character of an 102 year old man. His goal is to beat the record for longest living male, whereas Rishi Kapoor is an angry old man who plays as Amitabh Bachchans 76 year old son. The movie isn't about the record it's about a father and sons relationship. The ending was sad as Amitabh Bachchan dies in the end of the movie, because of brain tumour. Overall it's a good movie. I give this movie a 9/10

These two old legends of Bollywood will make you cry and laugh in 102 Not out
How many times this has happened that you have liked both the characters as well as the message, the movie wants to deliver. Amitabh and Rishi both will make you fall in love with them in Umesh Shukla's 102 not out. A simple story of a 102 old man trying to change the life of his 75 year old son is quite experimental and fresh. The movie covers three generations and tried to showcase the complex and troubled relation between father and son across three generations. The run time of the movie is quite short and kept at 102 minutes and this has made sure that the movie will never make you feel bore. The screenplay is taut and does full justice to the plot. The director has not given the whole plot of the movie in the beginning and has passed it to the audience in bits and pieces. This has made the audience to be interested in the proceedings till the end of the movie. Watch 102 not out for a fun filled ride and some emotional dose
